Matthew 9:35, English Standard Version

“And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction.”

For many years, I knew that there was a Charis Mission Trip that went to Belize every year. This was part of the requirement to graduate from Charis Bible College. In the back of my mind, I always had a desire to try going to Belize on a Mission Trip. Why? Because I knew they spoke English there. From the minute we landed till the day we left, I had a very enjoyable trip. This was the first mission trip I had been on in ten years that I was not the lead. I was able to learn to stand back and watch and enjoy what was going on. I really enjoy taking people on their first Mission Trip. This was great also for me because it was my first mission trip to Belize. We weren’t there very long until I felt the presence of God with us on this trip. My goal was to take three people and expose them to praying for people, putting them in positions that were uncomfortable, having to trust God and see Him move. There is something about seeing God move for the first time, healing someone. Once you see that, it changes you forever!

To my surprise, I think I got more out of the trip than they did, even though it was not my first mission trip. What was awesome was that the team got to learn from other people, and gain new perspectives from different people on the trip! We had a wide variety of places to experience.  We went to a hospital. Their hospitals are nothing like our hospitals. We were in a prison that was so bad that inside the center of the prison was another prison for the really bad people. We all got the opportunity to speak to the prisoners that were interested in Jesus.

We were in a community that was mostly Mennonite. We went door-to-door praying for people, seeing miracles. We also had a children's event and brought people to the Lord. We did street ministry a couple times, and we went to the hospital again. We saw many miracles of healing. I believe everybody on the team has to experience praying for somebody and seeing a miracle happen. I know we had many, many salvations. People are just open to hearing the word.

We had a fun day.  We got to visit the Mayan temples. We attended two different churches on Sunday, at which I had the pleasure of speaking. Everyone had the opportunity to speak at the Charis Bible College Church. The other was a Spanish church. I love Nicaragua, but the people of Belize are some of the nicest people I have ever met in my life. If you ever get a chance to go to Belize, I would highly recommend it, even over Nicaragua. Special thanks to my new friend Craig Rumbley.
