Acts 2:42, New Living Translation

“All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer.”

Division and isolation are two of the tools that the enemy has used against the body of Christ and, unfortunately, the results have been significant. There is so much disagreement and disunity in the Church today that it can sometimes be hard to even comprehend. There are so many people who are more concerned with what denomination a person a part is of, or what church they attend, then they are in hearing how Christ has impacted their lives. How sad it is to see people place more attention and focus on a man- made building or a manmade division rather than on the love, acceptance, and forgiveness that Christ has to offer.

We are so quick to point out all of the ways that we disagree instead of focusing on the fundamentals of true faith in Jesus. Could you imagine what it would be like if the body of Christ truly began to live in the way that Jesus and the early apostles had taught us? The scripture that is included in today’s teaching is only the start. The passage goes on to say,

“A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.” (Acts 2:43-47, NLT)

Notice nowhere did it say, “The believers gathered each day to debate each other and determine who was wiser in the teaching of the Lord.” Yet so much of what we do today has nothing to do with what the body of Christ is meant to be. So many people are so much more concerned with learning what the scripture says and arguing their opinion with others than simply doing what the scripture says, namely loving the Lord with all our heart, mind, and soul, and loving others as we love ourselves. Instead of fighting and dividing, the followers of Christ should be loving and uniting. I urge the body of Christ today, put down the ignorant and immature arguments and instead seek to love your brothers and sisters in Christ.
