Psalm 103:19, New International Version

“The LORD has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all.”

Any conversation about the spiritual realm needs the right starting point. If we begin with demons, opposition, warfare, or the activity of the enemy, we can easily become fearful, speculative, or unbalanced. But Scripture begins somewhere else. It begins with the throne of God. Psalm 103:19 tells us that the Lord has established His throne in heaven and that His kingdom rules over all.

That word “established” matters. God’s throne is not temporary, unstable, threatened, or dependent on the actions of created beings. His authority is not voted into existence. His reign is not subject to spiritual powers. His throne is not shaken by human fear, demonic rebellion, or circumstances we do not understand. God does not merely observe creation from a distance. He rules over it.

And His kingdom rules over all. Not some things. Not most things. All things. That includes the visible world and the invisible world. It includes human history, present circumstances, angels, rebellious spiritual powers, and everything else within creation. There is no realm outside His knowledge, no power outside His limitation, and no rebellion outside His final judgment.

This does not mean that God approves of everything that happens. Scripture is clear that sin, rebellion, deception, and demonic activity are contrary to His holy character. But none of those things exist outside His sovereign rule. The enemy may oppose God, but he does not overthrow God. Darkness may resist, but it does not reign. Spiritual conflict may be real, but it is never uncontrolled.

This is why we must reject the idea that spiritual warfare is some kind of cosmic struggle between two equal powers. God and Satan are not equals. God is Creator; Satan is a creature. God is eternal; Satan is not. God is sovereign; Satan is limited. God reigns; Satan rebels. Spiritual warfare is real, but the outcome is not uncertain. Christ has already triumphed, and His kingdom cannot be shaken.

That truth should steady the heart of every believer. We do not need to understand every spiritual detail in order to trust the One who reigns over all things. We can be watchful without being afraid, discerning without becoming obsessed, and prayerful without becoming panicked. A biblical view of the spiritual realm begins with the throne of God, not the schemes of darkness. And when we begin there, everything else is put in its proper place.
