Acts 2:46-47, New Living Translation

“They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.”

A topic that has always fascinated me is the early church. What must it have been like to be there in the days and weeks following the day of Pentecost? The people had received the gift of the Holy Spirit and they were living in perfect accord with each other. The Bible says that they ate together, shares their possessions with each other, worshiped together, and enjoyed the favor of all the people around them. What an amazing environment it must have been!

However, as we know from reading the rest of the New Testament and from history, this time of peace would not last. Later, the Body would be persecuted from outside and divided inside. The original unity in which they lived and went through life together would be shattered as disagreement and division began to come into their fellowship. As the years, decades and centuries passed the divisions would grow and grow to the point that it is almost impossible to know how many different denominations of Christians there are today.

In one of Jesus’ final prayers, He prayed that we would be one just as He was One with the Father. Yet we have failed to pursue that. It is almost as though the Body of Christ seeks reason and opportunity to break fellowship with each other. People mistake their preference for doctrine and when others refuse to change their own preferences, they leave. Oh, what a sad state that the Body of Christ is in today!

One of the core missions of Life With Christ Ministries is to see unity restored to the Body of Christ. Our desire is to build relationships with believers and make connections that we as His hands and feet can show the love that we have for each other through Christ to this lost and hopeless world. The Bible says that one of the ways people will know that we are Christians is by the love that we have for one another. Today, let us seek unity with our brothers and sisters so that we can be one Body with one purpose. Amen and Amen!
