Proverbs 3:5–6, New International Version

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight."

Change is one of the hardest things for most of us to embrace. We like what is familiar, predictable, and comfortable. But Scripture reminds us that God often works through change to accomplish His purposes. Proverbs 3:5–6 tells us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Trusting God means being willing to move when He says move, even when the path ahead feels uncertain. Obedience sometimes requires stepping into the unknown, but the unknown with God is safer than the familiar without Him.

Throughout the Bible, the people God used most powerfully were those who responded to His call to move. Abraham left his homeland without knowing where he was going. Moses had to return to Egypt, the place of his past pain, to lead a nation to freedom. The disciples dropped their nets and followed Jesus into a life they could not have imagined. In every case, obedience required surrender—letting go of what was known and trusting the One who knows all things. God does not call us to change for the sake of change; He calls us to follow His direction so that His purposes can unfold through our lives.

Often, our hesitation to accept change stems from fear—fear of failure, fear of loss, or fear of stepping outside our comfort zone. But 2 Timothy 1:7 reminds us that “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” When we let fear rule our hearts, we close ourselves off from the new work God wants to do. His leading will never contradict His Word, and it will always be rooted in His love. If He is calling you in a new direction, it’s not to harm you, it’s to grow you, to shape you, and to bring you into deeper dependence on Him.

Sometimes, accepting God’s new direction means leaving something good to embrace something better. The Israelites longed to return to Egypt because it was familiar, even though it was bondage. Likewise, we can grow so used to our routines and surroundings that we resist God’s invitations to something greater. But His ways are higher than ours. When He leads us into a new season, it’s because He sees what we cannot. Our job is not to understand every detail—it’s to walk by faith, one step at a time.

There’s beauty in surrendering to God’s direction. Every time we follow Him into something new, we learn more about His faithfulness. Change becomes less frightening when we realize the same God who led us before will lead us again. Whether He is calling you to a new place, a new ministry, or a new way of thinking, His plans are always for your good and His glory.

So, when the Lord begins stirring your heart toward change, don’t resist—listen. Pray. Trust. And move forward with confidence, knowing that every step of obedience draws you closer to the heart of the One who never changes.
