Break The Lie For Your Children

February 21, 2024

“Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD: But they that deal truly are his delight.” (Proverbs 12:22 KJV)

I hate lying because the Lord hates lying. Growing up I was exposed to it constantly. I hated how it made me question my own reality all of the time. Lying is a wicked act and unfortunately many pathological liars have been doing it for so long unchecked, that they believe in themselves, making it even harder to break the vicious cycle. I expose lying every chance that I get in our household. I want it uprooted and gone, never given the time to sprout and grow in the hearts of our children.

A few weeks ago, our younger daughter made a claim at the table in front of everyone that I thought sounded exaggerated. I questioned her about it later and she confessed it wasn’t true. Now the scripture teaches us to rebuke before all, that others also may fear in 1 Timothy 5:20. So I found it fitting that since she lied before everyone, she would also confess in front of them that she did so. The truth is a powerful antidote to any lie, and though it can be humiliating for the moment to humble yourself and confess your wrong, I think we all know that in the long run those habits give birth in us more fruitful lives before Christ.

Dear parents, I implore you to take your job seriously with your children. To be on the lookout always for bad habits and to be there to guide them on the path that leads to life rather than destruction. God chastens (corrects) those He loves, so if we love our children, we will do the same. May God equip you with the ability to know your children deeply, and convict you to take the time to train them in righteousness.
