Life Story - Coria Brock
The process of forming and living in a blended family is a challenging process. The adults involved in forming a blended family are placed under many pressures and as result need support from their family and friends. What kind of support do they truly need and what can those around them do to help provide this much needed help? To help us look at this topic further we will read a Life Story from Coria Brock. Coria went through the process of creating a blended family with her husband and as a result gained insight into how an adult who is going through that process can be best supported buy those around them.
How can you support adults who are going through the process of creating a blended family? Over the past three years I have been going through this process and during this time I believe that I have developed a good understanding of what is needed.
I believe the simplest way to describe the support that you can provide to someone going through this process is to listen to them. Listen to those who need support and learn what type of support they need. It may not only be help doing the work involved but they may need emotional or spiritual support as well. Remember, to support them does not mean that you simply give your opinion or make a comment about the situation. Support does not mean that you will fix the situation either. Supporting them may not even mean providing answers or guiding them in how to create a loving family. One of the best ways to support them may be by praying and listening to the voice of the Lord concerning their situation. We must not only listen to them but also always listen to God and what He would have to do. We should seek to become the comforter and encourager that God is leading us to be. There is only one way that we can truly do this, and that is to show them love. The love that comes from our Lord Jesus, which He taught us to have for the others.
We may call it a blended family, but it is really the same as any new family. A blended family is not a replacement of an old one, but a new family which God has brought together. And, one of the best ways that those around them can support them is by first welcoming them as a new family. Just as God has welcomed us to be His adopted children and to join in the family of Christ, so should we welcome those who have or are starting a blended family.
“For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will--to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.” (Ephesian 1:4-6, NIV)
If you see any family, whether a blended family or not, building their foundation upon Christ then stand with them and be a witness of what the Lord is doing! If they are not building their foundation this way, then stand in prayer for them. Love the Lord, and listen and obey His guidance. When we do this, we will be on the path to victory, no matter what!
