Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh (Genesis 2:24, NIV). My husband Max and I got married on February 13, 2016. It was one of the best days of my life! From all the wedding planning, crafting and shopping, to the actual day when we came together as one in Christ, it was truly such a blessing. It has been two years and a few months since then, and wow does time fly! We’ve definitely learned a lot in two years, about ourselves and each other!Â
The first couple weeks were different for me. We were both raised in a Christian home, so the day we got married was the day we moved in with each other. It was an adjustment that we both had to get used to. Living with another person that has a complete different way of doing things, and a different way of thinking! Something that we learned is that it is important to speak your mind about how you are feeling, but to do it respectfully. One of us would get upset about something that the other one would say or do and simply not talk about it. That is not a good thing to do. It's important to talk about your problems and work them out. It is also important that you do not yell at each other or call each other names. We make sure we do not do these things because in the end, that is only going to hurt the other person and make things worse.
In our spare time we love to travel. That has been one of my favorite parts of being married! Planning a fun vacation and getting to be with Max for an extended amount of time with no work interruption is truly a joy! We have both been blessed with good jobs that keep us busy! The first year of our marriage had difficult moments because we both worked opposite shifts. He was on midnights and I worked second shift. So when I was home, he was sleeping. When I was at work, he was awake. When I was home sleeping, he was at work! We believe that it is vitally important, especially in the first year, to make sure you find time to spend with each other. Date nights are an essential part of marriage! Time away from home with no distractions! Now, we get a lot more time together than we did during that first year. We still work opposite shifts a few days a week, but the nights we do get to spend together we make sure to spend with each other, with the occasional exception of also including family and friends.
I love being married! Coming home to your best friend every day and making a life with them is such an awesome thing. Since we got married we have been blessed so much! We’ve been able to afford two new cars to get us to places we need to get, and we have been able to move out of our small apartment to a beautiful house that is better than I could have even imagined. Not only that but we have two adorable dogs, Turtles and Rex. If there is one thing that we would say it is this, put God in the center of your marriage, and give Him all your problems and He will take care of you.Â
