Marriage is a wonderful thing. It allows you to build an everlasting foundation with your significant other. You get to experience every emotion with them. You are able to spend every day with your best friend. But best of all; you and your husband get to make a commitment that is centered on the Lord.
My marriage is still fairly new but it is going wonderfully. We got married on September 23, 2017. It was a beautifully, sunny day in Lisbon, Ohio. We had our closest friends and dearest family there with us. We were even blessed to have his father, now mine as well, be the one that performed out wedding ceremony. We are already about 8 months into our marriage and it is crazy how fast time goes by.
Marriage is so much fun. You get to learn how your significant other is picky about certain things. This includes how they like their coffee, their routine in the morning, their favorite things, actually, everything about them! It makes them feel happy when you know all these things about them too. Remember to be slow to anger and quick to forgive and love unconditionally just as Jesus loved you. Practicing that principle goes a long way in marriage.
But, just as many things that life brings us each day, marriage comes with some bumps in the road as well. Not all of the bumps are with each other though. Sometimes, they come from other people. One that I deal with is that I married young. I was 19 years old when I said “I do” to my best friend. Personally, I feel like many people confuse marrying young with marrying too early. Some others shame me for being married at my age. I often hear this when I am working with the public. In my case, I know that did not marry too early, despite my age. Many say that I am very mature for my age, and I would have to agree with them. I had come to know my self-worth at a young age and I believe that age is just a number that does not define your maturity. I had become a Jesus-loving young adult who was ready to take the next step with my soulmate.
Marriage is a love between two people that are ready to move forward and serve the Lord together. It is because of Him that we are together, and every night during our dinner prayer we thank Him for creating us to fall in love with each other. But remember, God must be number one in a marriage, just as God must be number one overall.
