My husband and I had a conversation shortly after we got married. He told me that seemed liked quite a while since he had last seen his best friend. I asked him, “Who is your best friend?” He gave me the name and after I gave it a thought I said, “What makes someone be your best friend?”

He answered me like this, “I don’t know? I think maybe because I can share everything with him.” So, my next question for him was more sincere, “Everything? Then shouldn’t I be your best friend?”

Let’s look at Genesis 2:22-24 (NIV):

“Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, ‘This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called “woman,” for she was taken out of man.’ That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh. Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.”

Eve was created from the rib of Adam, bone of his bone and flesh of his flesh. The symbolic meaning of this is that a wife is a part of her husband. They are not two but one. They are united by God and they should not be separated, nor should they be seen as two. In between them, there is no shame, nothing hidden, and they are completely open with each other.

Adam and Eve made a mistake, but they had not separated in anyway. God prepared her to be a good helper to her husband. At the same time, Adam should share everything he learned, everything he acknowledged, and even how he feels with her. Does that mean if Adam had shared everything with her, including God’s instructions concerning the tree, then she may have never made the mistake of believing the snake? I cannot know that answer, but I believe God’s word is intended to bring good, and He made Adam a good helped. When human beings follow their own way they will always make mistakes or ignore His way all together.

Okay, let’s go back to the conversation I had with my husband. He looked right into my eyes and spoke sincerely, “There’s nobody else I want to share my heart with more than you!” God is the only one who is qualified to be the judge. He knows what’s happening and He sees the past and searches our deepest thoughts. If we are to be one flesh, He is the only One who knows how it works, and He is the only One who can make it work. When a husband and wife both believe in One Lord, follow One truth, live in One Spirit, and are united in One God, there is light, and nothing can be hidden in the darkness. This is my belief, and because of it I responded to my husband, “I would not expect anyone to know me like you do except God Himself.”
