Jake's Life - His Testimony

My name is Jake Mudger, and I am the middle child with two sisters.  My mother and father are believers and raised me in a Christian home. I started attending church as a baby and had a great foundation. It was not only my parents, but also their friends who had a lot of influence on my life. I was able to see how we helped people and allowed people to help us.  I remember one Sunday night service at church we were singing “I’ll fly away” and I was singing at the top of my lungs, to the point of embarrassing my Dad who was standing beside me, who was tapping my shoulder to quiet me down, but I couldn’t. For the first time in my life I felt Jesus in my heart and I knew I needed to be baptized.  In high school I had super youth pastors that really loved me and challenged me to follow Christ.  All of this made a profound influence, deeply rooting my identity in Christ. Today I have three beautiful kids and am enjoying all that God is doing in my life.

Even with all this blessing in my life I certainly didn’t wake up every morning asking God how I could serve for His glory.  It was quite the opposite, looking out for my own interest, struggling with secret sin, and playing the part of a Christian.  I was really good at posing, but was full of shame and knew I wasn’t living according to God’s will.  Again, God provided me with wise men, who came beside me and invited me to be part of an accountability group.  If I would have known ahead of time that it would expose my deepest secrets, I never would have joined.  Nevertheless, God is good and started me on the path to healing.  Another man, Chris, came into my life and shared his testimony with me for the first time visiting their house.  It was really weird and even Chris said, “I don’t know why I shared that with you.”  But again, God is good, and has a plan for us.  Chris’s testimony went to my core.  It brought to light things I needed repentance for.

Since then I have started experiencing a freedom I have never had before. I’m learning to let go of my worldly grip and hold on to God’s promises.  I’m learning to hear God speak to me from His Word and from His will. I’m learning to be part of a community that fully trusts God for everything.  I’m a slow learner it seems, but I’m excited to see what God has planned for my future in His ministry here.
