Proverbs 18:10, New International Version

“The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.”

There is a resolve, a strength that is gained when we look back into our past and see the ways that God, our Father, has shown up in our lives time and time again. It helps to develop trust, perseverance, faith, and an awe and respect for who He is.  He fulfills every promise given to us through His word…my mind is brought to this scripture which has brought me comfort, strength, and hope.

“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” (Matthew 10:29-31, NIV),

Time and time again I have seen my Father, my Lord and Savior, show up in my life in such a way that I cannot deny it was Him! Only He could have done what He did! I cannot deny what He has done in my life…from the moment I stepped into that church in North Carolina to the moment I am currently in. He has changed me, changed my heart, changed the way I think, brought me to new and higher places. But even in the day-to-day challenges, there are moments where things get challenging, and I need a reminder.

The reminder: “The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” (Proverbs 18:10, NIV)

In Hebrew, strong tower means running into an immensely fortified tower, being elevated to an inaccessibly high place. In Ephesians 2:6-7 (NIV) it says, “And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.” His kindness has drawn us to repentance. It has led us to salvation, a hope of eternity with Him. And when we need a place of shelter to go, we have our strong tower that elevates us to an inaccessibly high place. 

I hope this reminder leaves us encouraged and remembering the faithfulness of God and what He has done in our lives. He hasn’t stopped; He isn’t done! Let us hold onto this! And as I have heard quite recently, let us keep our eyes on the Lamb!
