John 14:2–4, New Living Translation

“There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going.”

Scripture tells us, “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16, NLT) Jesus tells us in John 14:2–4 (NLT), “There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going.”

The first scripture explains why God sent His son. Love. He didn’t want a place where we could not be with Him. By the finished work of the cross, we are made right with God. Do not get this confused. The Bible does not teach “once saved always saved.” It clearly admonishes us, “For you are free, yet you are God’s slaves, so don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do evil.” (1 Peter 2:16, NLT)

The second scripture, let us know that Jesus has gone to prepare a place for us. If that’s the case, that means He will return, and the Bible says He will. But are we ready? We know He died for us because He loved us and wanted us to be with Him together. And we know He has gone to prepare a place for us so that when He returns, He can bring us to Himself. We believe this. But are we living every day like tomorrow might be the day of His arrival? Do we really believe He will return?

I am speaking to myself as much as anyone. We get so caught up in the routines of life, living day-to-day with our responsibilities. But are we keeping it at the top of our priority list? I don’t ask these things from a judgmental view. Bring it is for us to think about because I want us to be ready. I want us to be in heaven together.

Matthew 25:1-13, (NLT) says this: “Then the Kingdom of Heaven will be like ten bridesmaids who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. The five who were foolish didn’t take enough olive oil for their lamps, but the other five were wise enough to take along extra oil. When the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep. At midnight they were roused by the shout, ‘Look, the bridegroom is coming! Come out and meet him!’ All the bridesmaids got up and prepared their lamps. Then the five foolish ones asked the others, ‘Please give us some of your oil because our lamps are going out.’ But the others replied, ‘We don’t have enough for all of us. Go to a shop and buy some for yourselves.’ But while they were gone to buy oil, the bridegroom came. Then those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was locked. Later, when the other five bridesmaids returned, they stood outside, calling, ‘Lord! Lord! Open the door for us!’ But he called back, ‘Believe me, I don’t know you!’ So you, too, must keep watch! For you do not know the day or hour of my return.”

Are we ready? I believe we, this means me too, should be doing an internal check. Am I harboring unforgiveness? Am I living in sin and not repenting and turning from it? Am I doing what God has asked me to do? Do I really have a relationship with God? Do I walk and talk with him?

We do not know when, but we believe He is returning. If we believe He is returning, then the way we live our lives should reflect that belief.

This is not a message to take half-heartedly. If you do not know Jesus is your Savior, or if you have backslidden, or you need help from the Lord, it’s not too late to call on the name of Jesus!

Pray with me.

Heavenly Father, I come to you in the name of Jesus and ask for your Son, Jesus Christ to be my Savior, to live in my heart. I know and recognize that I need a Savior, and I need help. Jesus can return at any moment. Help me Jesus to put my life in order, to be ready! Show me the way that leads to eternal life, and give me feet of obedience to follow through for Your will. Thank You, Jesus for the sacrifice that You made for me. Thank You that You are coming back for me, so that I may be where You are. In Jesus name. Amen.
