Psalm 27:8, New Living Translation

“My heart has heard you say, ‘Come and talk with me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”

Walking with God is not always easy. Sometimes life leaves us questioning ourselves or maybe even God. I think our biggest mistake, this is for me also, is lack of trust. We come up against different scenarios in our life and we begin to let fear in or perhaps it’s worry, anxiety or feelings of depression. Who do you think is the author of those voices?

What does God tell us about these things?

FEAR: “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10, NLT)

WORRY: “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? (Matthew 6:25-27, NLT)

ANXIETY: “So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:6-8, NLT)

DEPRESSION: “Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and my God!” (Psalm 42:11, NLT)

Life can no doubt be a challenge and cause us to question. I believe we have to reach a point where we decide, do I want to be free of fear, worry, anxiety, and or depression? Or do I want these things to consume my life and steal my joy? If the answer is freedom, then we have to make the decision to trust God. In every moment and every day as hard as it might be!

Psalm 27:8 (NLT) says, “My heart has heard you say, ‘Come and talk with me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’”

Recently I started walking to get a little bit of exercise. In my two-mile walk, I decided to start talking to the Lord. I poured out my heart. Maybe it’s expressing my gratitude or perhaps I am upset about something, or maybe I need some inspiration. I have only been doing this walk for five days, (it will have been longer by the time you are reading this) and I have already experienced God showing up.

We don’t always get things right. There will be moments when our emotions take over. Don’t beat yourself up about it. Remember God’s word. When you recognize what is happening, be quick to take it to the Lord. I am still learning every day. I am trying my best to live life the right way. Seeking God in all of life’s triumphs and woes is a good place to start!

I want to encourage us to be intentional. Walk with God, talk with God. We will never make it through life on our own. But we know, with God, all things are possible.
