John 15:26, New International Version

“When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me.”

I think back to a time when there was a lady who told me she doesn’t hear from God.  At the time I did not know what to tell her. I, myself, felt like I was in a place of struggle. But as we often hear, hindsight is 20/20. What would I say now if I could have that same conversation with her again? I would want to encourage her that she has heard from God. She has responded to His call.

If you have started searching out the things of God and you have reached a place of accepting Christ as your Savior, then you have heard from God. We do not find God on our own, but it is His Spirit that calls to us. Jesus said in John 15:26 (NIV), “When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me.” A few verses down Jesus continues by saying, “But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: about sin, because people do not believe in me; about righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; and about judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.” (John 16:7-11, NIV) It is the Holy Spirit that convicts us of sin and points us to truth…Jesus. “Jesus said, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. ‘” (John 14:6, NIV)

If you have come to Christ, you have answered the call to respond. You heard the Spirit drawing you to Christ, your redeemer. I would also want to tell her some words from Jesus Himself that would encourage her: “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.” (John 10:27-30, NIV)

I believe there are times when we all question if we really hear from the Lord. I believe that’s when faith has to kick in. Do you trust Jesus? Do you believe what He says? We are required to walk by faith and not by sight. We cannot always go by our feelings. They can be misleading. Before Jesus ascended to heaven, He told His disciples, and this is for us too, His disciples: I am with you to the very end of the age.    When we are born again believers in Christ, we have His Holy Spirit living in us. He is with us always. Don’t give up. Keep talking to Jesus. He is listening and He is working all things out for your good! It doesn’t always look the way we want it to, but, if you trust in God, and keep doing good, eventually you will look back and you will see His faithfulness following you, even to the current moment you are in. That is love pursuing you.

“And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.” (1 John 4:16, NKJV)
