Matthew 7:26-27, New Living Translation
“But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”
It takes a lot of faith to put your life in the hands who you cannot see– to build love from the ground up. Jesus tells us in Matthew 7:26-27 (NLT), “But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”
If we live our lives, foolishly or selfishly, we will be like the house built upon the sand and we will crumble. Giving our lives to Jesus is the beginning of creating a foundation upon rock, the Rock, that will bring stability, strength, and peace. Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NLT) says, “Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.” According to the Matthew Henry Concise Commentary on the Whole Bible, it expands on the scripture by saying, “Everything is as God made it; not as it appears to us. We have the world so much in our hearts, are so taken up with thoughts and cares of worldly things, that we have neither time nor spirit to see God's hand in them. The world has not only gained possession of the heart, but has formed thoughts against the beauty of God's works. We make mistakes if we think we were born for ourselves; no, it is our business to do good in this life, which is short and uncertain; we have but little time to be doing good, therefore we should redeem time.”
Our Father, in heaven, created us for companionship (Us being one; one with the Father and us with Him). He wants to pour out His love upon us. He has created us for a life of beauty, purpose, and love. Yet somehow, we are captivated by the things of this world that leave us longing for the next “best” thing. Though life can be uncertain, there is One that is certain… Jesus Christ.
Throughout the word of God, we discover our love, forgiveness, provision, strength, peace, and so much more. The fulfillment Christ brings to our lives is more than what we could ever provide for ourselves. Because of the fall, we are born into a sin nature that craves worldly things. But Christ, who poured out His life as an offering for our salvation (sacrificial love), provides for the eternity God has placed in the heart of man.
We must also take into consideration, our heavenly Father, God, has provided us with free will. He will never force Himself upon us. He allows us to choose the world or Him. What life do you want to embrace today? I encourage you to put your life in the hands of the One who gave you life. Build this life, this love, from the ground up, on the solid rock of Jesus Christ.
Let us pray, as David did in Psalm 25:1-7 (NLT), “O LORD, I give my life to you. I trust in you, my God! Do not let me be disgraced, or let my enemies rejoice in my defeat. No one who trusts in you will ever be disgraced, but disgrace comes to those who try to deceive others. Show me the right path, O LORD; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you. Remember, O LORD, your compassion and unfailing love, which you have shown from long ages past. Do not remember the rebellious sins of my youth. Remember me in the light of your unfailing love, for you are merciful, O LORD.”
