Matthew 6:28-30, New Living Translation
“And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, He will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?”
Oftentimes we may feel left “in the dark.” We aren’t sure of the things to say or to do. Maybe we feel like we are out of options. I want us to remember that the God of the universe, the God who knows and calls you by name is never out of options!
Bear with me, because the analogy I am about to use may be something you have heard before. This is what I feel God has placed on my heart.
I am reminded of the planting season. Maybe a seed or a bulb has been planted. Either way, a hole was created to put it in, and it was covered with soil and left in darkness. With the proper care, the seed-out bulb will develop a root system that keeps it anchored and where it receives its nutrients. As the plant continues to be nurtured and cared for, it reaches its full potential. We, as God’s children, can relate to the seed or bulb.
Matthew 6:28-30 (NLT) says this, “And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, and yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, He will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?”
God had not forgotten us even though at times it may feel that’s the case. Like lilies, we are planted for a time such as this. The trials we face help to mature and grow us in our faith. We develop a root system that Jerod us anchored and gives us nutrients. What is this source? Christ, the Living Word! “In the beginning the Word already existed, The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.” (John 1:1-5, NLT)
So, we see, we were created through Him! His light shined in our darkness and gave us life, He gives stability. We are loved and nurtured by our Father to grow into the people He created us to be.
As the lilies came forth from the ground, they required light and water to keep them alive. We too have the same requirements. God is gracious to give, but we must seek Him! Matthew 6:33 (NLT), says, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need.” Jesus also said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the father except through me.” (John 14:6, NLT)
If we, for one moment, think that we can do this thing called life without Christ as our Savior, we need to take time to reevaluate. We ourselves have not given our life for the sins of the world and those who have committed them. We ourselves fall short of the glory of God “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standards. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. For Good presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood…” (Romans 3:23-25, NLT)
I want to encourage us not to give up, but you continuously seek God! Let Him bring us to our full potential! For God is good, and so all the time God is good!
