1 Corinthians 15:33, English Standard Version
"Do not be deceived: 'Bad company corrupts good morals.’”
1 Corinthians 15:33 serves as a warning that surrounding ourselves with, or forming close friendships with, individuals who possess poor character or negative habits will eventually ruin good morals.
Who we choose to associate with can have negative consequences for eternity.
“Bad company corrupts good character" is a biblical proverb from 1 Corinthians 15:33 warning that close association with people who possess negative habits, immoral values, or harmful behaviors will negatively impact and erode one’s own character. It highlights the influence of peer pressure and environmental surroundings on personal morality.
We have to be intentional in relationships, choosing those who support positive values and avoiding those who may lead you astray. Who we spend our time with will eventually impact on our habits. Our habits and attitudes are influenced by the people we spend the most time with, which can lead to the destruction of good morals. We have to be mindful of the "inner circle" in our life, as peer groups significantly impact choices and behavior.
How many of you had the same experience as I did growing up, when my parents told me not to hang out with certain kids because they were “bad company”? More often than not, they were entirely correct in their advice, as those kids were more apt to be the ones who dropped out of school, ended up in jail, or became addicted to something that ruined their life.
Who we choose to associate with can have negative consequences for eternity. Renewing our minds through thoughtful and continued study of God’s Word gives us the discernment to escape the snares of outside influences.
Remember, you are who you surround yourself with!
