"For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them"

People identify themselves in a variety of ways. We have all heard people say, “I am a ___.” Fill in the blank with runner, Democrat, Republican, night owl, introvert, overcomer, etc. The world wants to put a label on you, but you are not your accomplishments, feelings, desires, or failures. Your identity is in the God who made you and not in what others say about you or even what you say or feel about yourself. Before you can grow and be all God wants you to be, you must know who you are and who God created you to be.

If you are a follower of Jesus, your identity is firmly rooted in Him. Instead of finding your worth in worldly labels, your career, or past mistakes, the Bible teaches that your core identity is a gift of grace based on who He is and what He has done for you. 

Understanding your identity in Jesus means believing what God says about you:

You are a new creation: Your past does not define you. The old life is gone, and you are made completely new.

You are a child of God: You are adopted into His family and can approach Him as a loving Father.

You are fully forgiven: There is no condemnation for those who belong to Jesus.

You are chosen and treasured: You are God’s special possession, loved unconditionally without having to "perform" or earn your value.

When you root your identity in Jesus, you gain a firm foundation that cannot be shaken by life's changes, failures, or the opinions of others. 

As we come to understand what it means when our true identity is in Christ, the benefits are overwhelming.

You find a new purpose, contentment, and the ability to love those around you.

Make every effort to spend time in the Word and to allow God to replace your worldly identity with who He created you to be. In Christ, our worthlessness, meaninglessness, and hopelessness are all gone!
