Psalms 119:105, English Standard Version
"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."
I have discovered through the years that God leads us one step at a time. His promise is: "As you go, step by step I will open up the way before you" (Proverbs 4:12 - Literal translation). The pillar of clouds led the Israelites day by day. So does the Holy Spirit lead us today. Why does He do that? I believe He wants us to trust Him with that next step and every step we take we take in Faith and obedience to Him.
Â
Each time, He shows us the next step, only after we had taken the step, He had already shown me. God's Word is "a lamp to our feet" (Psalm 119:105), meaning that it shows us only the next step for our feet and not the whole road in front of us. This is like holding a torch and walking along a dark road. We can see only a little bit of the road at a time - just enough for the next step. To see more of the road ahead, we have to move forward.
Â
God could show us the whole road ahead of us, He could show us our whole lives, but then where is faith. Also, I believe that if He showed us our whole lives, we wouldn't be able to handle it. Taking step by step with the Lord teaches us to trust Him step by step.
Â
Following the Lord step by step involves aligning our life with God's will through faith, obedience, and love. This process includes prioritizing a relationship with God and seeking His guidance.
Â
So, how can we do this? First, prioritize your relationship with God. Spend time with God daily. This involves prayer, Bible reading, and meditating on His Word. Secondly, get to know Him. By spending time with God, you learn more about His character, which informs your understanding of His will and how to follow Him. Lastly, seek God's Guidance:
Â
Pray for guidance. Ask God to show you His will and to guide your steps.Â
Â
God provides just enough guidance to require trust, rather than revealing the entire path at once. This emphasizes the importance of faith in navigating life's journey, relying on God's presence and leading even when the way forward isn't entirely clear. It implies that trust is built through taking steps in faith, even when the ultimate destination is not fully visible.Â
Â
We can always choose to follow Jesus’ voice and allow His Word to light the way rather than let our blindness keep us paralyzed in anxiousness and fear. When we choose to follow Jesus’ voice instead of our eyes, our faith can be life-changing, helping us discover peace and blessing.
Â
Remember, God doesn't always unveil the entire plan or future. Instead, He provides guidance in increments, requiring us to trust Him for the next step. Will your next step be trusting the Lord or choosing your way in the dark?
