Proverbs 9:9, New King James Version

"Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; Teach a just man, and he will increase in learning."

"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness," (2 Timothy 3:16, NKJV)

You can't fill a cup that is already full of something else. That's just common sense, right? But, what about us? The same theory applies. We can’t be filled with the Lord if we are full of other things like self, the world, anger, etc. So, what does it mean to be an empty vessel that the Lord can use?

Being an "empty vessel" for God means surrendering self-centeredness, ego, and worldly desires to be filled with His spirit, grace, and purpose, allowing Him to work through you for His glory. It involves letting go of personal control, bitterness, or greed, and intentionally seeking God's presence, wisdom, and power to live a transformed life.

It involves humility and surrender...Coming to God not full of your own plans, pride, or accomplishments, but with a desire for His will. We have to let go of certain things. Releasing selfish desires, anger, control, lust, and worldly attachments that block God's flow.

We have to recognize that we cannot fill ourselves but must rely on God for spiritual nourishment, wisdom, and strength.

We have to be teachable. What does that mean?

Being teachable means having a humble, open heart that acknowledges not knowing everything, allowing God to fill you with His knowledge, wisdom, and truth, which involves listening to the Holy Spirit, seeking His Word, accepting correction, and growing in grace and understanding, rather than being full of pride or self-sufficiency.

How to become an empty vessel and teachable?

Pray and ask God to empty you and fill you with His Spirit, grace, and love.

Practice Self-Denial: let go of personal ego and selfish ambitions.

We have to recognize our limitations and need for God's guidance, understanding that pride blocks growth.

We have to be open to instruction: A genuine hunger to learn, even when it means being corrected or shown you are wrong.

We have to listen to the Spirit: Paying attention to internal promptings and the wisdom God offers. We have to stop talking long enough for the Spirt to speak to us.

What is the result of being an empty vessel and being teachable?

You become a channel for God's blessings, wisdom, and truth to flow to others.

Your life becomes a testament to God's power, demonstrating His ability to fill what is empty and transform what is broken.

So, how do we get this in our lives?

Pray for a teachable heart and a bendable will.

Seek wisdom from God daily.

Embrace opportunities for growth, even uncomfortable ones, as divine lessons.

Ask others for feedback on how to improve and listen to their input.

In essence, to be teachable is to remain a lifelong student of God, allowing Him to fill the empty spaces with His divine knowledge, leading to a deeper walk with Him.

We need to empty ourselves of ourselves, our flesh, the cares of this world and stay continually filled with the fire of His presence in our lives.

Do whatever it takes in your life to be an empty vessel fit for filling!

Pray this:

Lord Jesus, thank You for making me as a vessel to contain You so I can express You to everyone around me. Thank You for living in me. Lord, I open my heart to You again. Fill me with Yourself more today.
