Proverbs 3:5-6, New International Version

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Trusting God through life’s twists and turns means relying on His sovereignty, not personal understanding, to navigate unexpected detours and challenges. It involves believing that even painful detours are part of a divine plan for good (Romans 8:28), finding security in His unchanging nature, and allowing Him to guide every step.

It is grounding yourself in the belief that God is faithful, unchanging, and working all things for good—even during detours.

How can we trust God in the twists, turns, and setbacks in life?

We have to surrender control: Acknowledge that while you cannot control circumstances, you can trust God’s sovereignty and better purpose.

Lean on Scripture: Rely on promises like Proverbs 3:5-6, which encourages trusting the Lord to direct your path.

We need to learn to acknowledge God's presence: Recognize that God is with you in every season and is, indeed, the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Train ourselves to embrace the journey: See detours as opportunities for growth, knowing they are often part of a larger plan.

And, of course, keep the faith: Keep walking, one step at a time, trusting that God is preparing the way, even when the path is not clear.

Instead of demanding a straight path, acknowledge God in all ways and rely on His guidance rather than your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6). This means trusting that God is orchestrating events for your ultimate good, even when situations seem chaotic or uncomfortable. Unexpected turns are not failures but "scenic routes" that shape character and place you in the right place at the right time.

If you have trouble trusting in the unknown, lean on God's Word and actively ask God for direction and trust. Believe that God is in control of all details, including things you cannot see.

We can’t see the future. We don’t know what is going to happen next. What we can do is trust in God’s promises. If He says it, He means it.

Remember God’s promises when twists and turns happen in your life and trust the Operator!
