Freddie's Life - His Testimony
I was born and raised in the south Bronx NYC to a large family of Puerto Rican descent. Being raised in the Bronx was a very negative but also fulfilling experience growing up. Like most boys growing up in the inner city I had my share of growing up in the midst of a lot of negative and sometimes violent outcomes which I survived.
I never heard the gospel all the years that I was living in NYC. During my mid-teens because of the negative city life, my family decided to move to Youngstown Ohio in hopes that it would be a better place to raise a family. It was in Youngstown where I attended a small Spanish church in the east side of town that preached the gospel, On a Friday night they had a special ministry gospel singing group on what they called Teen During at called Bob Noble and The Lost Then Found a Night the church. It was there that I surrendered my life to the Lord and began this wonderful journey into Christianity. During the years I connected with what was called The Jesus Movement in Youngstown Ohio with then DJ Johnny Kay of WHOT Youngstown Radio. He was the main person who gathered teenagers all over the Youngstown Warren Area for discipleship and growing in Christ. It was basically a huge movement of hippies that connected to Christ. After graduation from East High School I had many ministry involvements throughout the area and sang in several Christian bands.
In 1979 I moved to Los Angeles where I attended Church On The Way under Dr. Jack Hayford. It was in Los Angeles that I had the opportunity to travel nationally with Terry Talbot, The 2nd Chapter of Acts and did many concerts in the area with Phil Keaggy and other famous Christian music artists. After returning to Youngstown I served as the senior youth pastor at Victory Christian Center with Pastor David Thomas for many years and then a few years later served as the Senior Pastor of Crossroad Ministries with my wife Beth and my children. I served at Crossroads for twenty five years and was the founding pastor. After retiring from the church, I took a position as the hospice Chaplain for Aultman Alliance Hospital where I am still currently at. Crossroad Ministries later changed its name to Hope Christian Fellowship.
My new journey allowed me to minister to the death and dying of hospice patients and their families. A very rewarding life changing opportunity. I am sure there are many things that I left out of what has been a wonderful experience serving Christ for the last fifty years, but I felt that I only wanted to give you an idea of my involvement in ministries and my personal salvation without being to dramatic or wordy. God is great! I praise God and His son Jesus Christ every day for my salvation and His Grace to use me all these years. I cherish my experiences in growing in the Lord.
Besides my wife Beth, we share four children, Jessica, Alison, Lexi, and lan, plus four wonderful grandchildren we cherish and value. I trust you too have experienced the saving Grace of Jesus Christ.
