Revelations 1:19, Amplified Bible

“So write the things which you have seen [in the vision], and the things which are [now happening], and the things which will take place after these things.”

What did the Lord Jesus have John write down for us? A short version:

“And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.” (Revelations 12:9, ESV)

And “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” (Revelations 21:4, NIV)

Then John wrote about a new heaven and a new earth in Revelations 21:1.

Why did God reveal what will take place to John and have it written down for us to read? We can come up with several good biblical reasons, but one assurance we have is this: God intends to end the sadness and evil that exists in this fallen world!

Sadness and evil is never what God desires for His wonderfully and fearfully made creation – His people, His children. He spoke light into darkness, He breathed life above the formless, and through the riches of His love He filled up the emptiness. He took no joy in seeing His Archangel Lucifer betray his purpose and lead other angels astray. There is no pleasure for Him to witness His “very good” creation that Adam and Eve were deceived to misuse their freewill. (Genesis 1-3) What happened was never His desire on earth nor heaven. However, many who question and doubt and confuse all the wickedness and darkness that has taken place in this world, and they either blame or deny there is a God. Some believe in Him yet live in fear and worry. Instead of trusting in His goodness, His power, and agreeing in His Word, they are belittling Him. Through their decisions, actions, and attitudes, they prove that their desire is led by world knowledge, and it seems to fit more with their identity and fuel their pride. Throughout history, we can tell that the disobedience of mankind indicates they have not acknowledged and accepted God’s all-powerful, all-present, and all-knowing.

What will the Creator – the Lord God Almighty – do in this situation with all the sin against His love and goodness?

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” (John 3:16-17, ESV)

For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. So, my dear friends, fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. (2 Corinthians 4:18) His Word, Jesus, never fails, and His promises must be fulfilled! We have hope!
