Job 38:1, New International Version
“Then the LORD spoke to Job out of the storm…”
Have you ever been like Job, the man in the book of Job whom the Lord called upright and blameless? I am not talking about the trials he faced, but about the way he deeply poured out his grief to God, vulnerable and transparent before Him.
Throughout different chapters in the book of Job, we read how time after time Job expressed his grief. He struggled to understand the sudden change in his circumstances, and he desired a word from the Lord that could comfort his dying soul. How about the different chapters of your life? Have you experienced grief that brought sorrow and hurt to your very soul? Have there been times when you struggled to understand why things happened in your life or in this world? Have you hoped that you might receive comfort or an answer as you prayed to God?
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13, NIV
Our God is faithful. If you have finished the book of Job, you know that God spoke in His divinely appointed time. To Job, it was a season of storms, yet it was also the time in which the Lord chose to reveal Himself, restore Job, and reward the one who remained blameless and upright in the eyes of God.
“My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you.” Job 42:5, NIV
You may wait for days, months, or years. Even a few hours of waiting in your anguish, desperation, weariness, or fear may feel like a thousand years. In those moments, you may be tempted to question and doubt. You may even be tempted to turn away from God and try to fix the issue the way the world does.
I pray that you will take a break from what is troubling you and take your focus off what, or who, you are waiting for. Open the Bible. Read the book of Job, or any of the books written in the Bible. Let the Word remind you how faithful the Lord is, even in our faithlessness.
If you have thought to yourself, “How could the Lord love me and care for me?” or if you believe that what you are going through must be punishment from God, I pray that you will know and be certain of this truth the Lord has spoken: “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” (John 3:17, NIV)
We have all fallen short. Still, the Lord came while we were sinning against Him. He desires His people to be set apart for Him and to be holy. He also wants no one to perish, but for all to come to repentance and receive everlasting life with Him.
So, set your focus on Him. Seek Him with all your heart. Breakthrough will come. A prodigal child will come home. Whatever you are waiting for, you can trust in the Lord who is faithful.
