John 4:39, New International Version

“Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony…”

By the grace of God, through the ministries the Lord has called my husband and I to serve in, we are blessed to engage with different brothers and sisters. As part of the fellowship and the work of the ministries we have the opportunity to hear the testimonies of many different people. This has been something that has always strengthened us and encouraged us in our walk with Christ.

The Word of God teaches us, “They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.” (Revelation 12:11, NIV)

By what the Lord did on the cross and with the testimony that the Lord has done in our own lives, we will be like the disciples who triumphed over the enemy, Satan, and be conquerors through Jesus who overcome sin and death.

“Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony…” (John 4:39, NIV) When we testify about Jesus, the blindfold of the enemy not only falls from us, but also from those who hear. Exactly like Jesus said to His disciples, “… ‘If you continue in My word, you are truly My disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’” (John 8:31-32, NIV) The truth will set you free from the lies, schemes, traps, and the slavery of the enemy.

The Biblical meaning of the phrase "to testify" or "to give one's testimony" means to share the story of how someone became a Christian. It often refers to a specific event or situation in a person's life that led them to believe in Jesus Christ. Just like the word that the Samaritan woman brought to the town. A word to honor and glorify God and a word to point them to Jesus. It was not about her story, but His testimony!

Your story is about you and your testimony is about Him. It is His testimony that triumphs over the enemy!

Let’s look at the story of Job in the Bible. If the book of Job only talked about the sufferings and tragedies in His life and did not mention any word of who God is and how He restored his life, what would the conclusion be? Would it bring any benefit or encouragement? Would the one who reads the story of Job find any hope in it? I don’t think so. One of the most well-known verses from the book of Job says, “My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you.” (Job 42:5, NIV) Through a chain of suffering and trials, Job saw the Lord as he had never before. Through his story he could testify to who God truly is. This is not about his life or his story, but a testimony about God. His righteousness and His power to restore lead us to have faith in the Lord God Almighty!

“I have told the glad news of deliverance in the great congregation; behold, I have not restrained my lips, as you know, O Lord. I have not hidden your deliverance within my heart; I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation; I have not concealed your steadfast love and your faithfulness from the great congregation.” (Psalm 40:9-10, ESV) Will you stand and testify for the Lord like David, a man after God’s heart? Do you desire to see the Lord and be blessed like Job? Do you want to be set free and for others to overcome like the Samaritan woman? Come and be His testimony!
