2 Kings 18:3, New International Version

“He did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father David had done.”

Does the Word of God tell us that there is no authority except from God? Romans 13:1 says that it does. If that is so, why did God choose those who did evil? Well, there are reasons.

There is a saying, “God does not use perfect people.” The truth is that there is no perfect human being who is not born with a sinful nature. Even when Jesus was made flesh, He emphasized: “Why do you call me good?... No one is good—except God alone.” (Mark 10:18, NIV)

First, we need to know this: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”(Romans 3:23, ESV) except Jesus: “He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.” (1 Peter 2:22, NIV)

 Second, we are blessed and loved by God, who offered us free will when we were created. Yet we can choose to lean on our own nature, do what is pleasing to our flesh, and abuse the free will God graciously gave us. Or we can seek His truth and carefully make every choice in our lives. Just like Adam and Eve, they could choose to listen and obey the instruction God had given them seriously, or they could choose to reason in their own minds and make their own choice. Genesis 3 shows us this clearly.

God has a purpose for each and every one who has been created. He desires for us to choose to accept that purpose and respond to His calling. We can also choose to do it faithfully or to do it lightly.

Hezekiah is one of the good examples. He was called to be king. He had his calling, yet he could choose to do right or evil. When he became king, he did what was right in the eyes of God. He consulted with his leaders humbly, and God gave him favor both from the Lord and from His people. Later in his life, he became prideful because of the success and wealth that the Lord had blessed him with, and he began making choices that were not like the choices he had made before or the choices he should have made. (2 Kings 20:12-18; Isaiah 39)

What I have to share with you is this: will you make your choices in life based on what is right in the eyes of the Lord?
