Psalm 63:1, New King James Version
“O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You…”
Every morning, before I open my eyes, I say good morning to my Father, Lord Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. I know He is there with me. I know He is not far away, and He is very alive every single day. I do not prefer to wake up to a day without Him in my life. Or maybe the right way to say it is this: I do not desire to lose sight of Him who loved me, who has wisdom to guide me, and who has purpose and assignment for me to fulfill for His Kingdom.
I have been there, living life without Christ and living with a worldly view of life. It sounds very self-focused, full of fun, and like a dream to chase. Yet none of those feelings are firm or real. Instead, it is tiresome, exhausting, unsatisfying, restless, and actually selfish. The glamour of the world is an illusion and temporary. It is a temptation that leads to everlasting loss.
“When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.” (Genesis 3:6, NIV)
“Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.” (Genesis 3:8, NIV)
“And the Lord God said, ‘The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.’ So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken.” (Genesis 3:22-23, NIV)
The way of encounter between the Creator and His people changed. They went from walking together, side by side, to being far off from His presence. Life, love, peace, joy… the atmosphere shifted. No matter how hard mankind tried to build through the tower of Babel or even the temple of God (Genesis 11:1-9; Acts 17:24), or tried to fight or work to gain either their own kingdom or entrance into the Kingdom of God (1 Samuel 8; Ephesians 2:8-9), it could not be accomplished by human effort. There is only one Way to restore the relationship: Jesus. Without the Light, there is darkness. Without love, there is hatred. Without peace, there is unrest. Without the presence of Jesus, there will never be a place where you have the life your soul truly delights in.
Let me give you a loving reminder: Jesus made the way for you, and every morning, He is waiting for you to come and walk with Him. The question is: Do you seek Him first in your day?
