2 Kings 4:3-5. New International Version
“Elisha said, ‘Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few. Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.’ She left him and shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring.”
When we talk about the Word, most will focus on the wonderful works on Moses, David, or Paul, or some will only pay attention to the words of those who are regarded as great preachers. Yet, if we listen how God’s Word works, this is what He aim for - What the world thinks is worthless, useless, and nothing at all is what God has used to destroy what the world considers important. (1 Corinthians 1:28, CEV)
There was an event recorded in the Bible about how Elisha, the man of God, a prophet, through the anointing from the Lord, demonstrated a miracle that came from the power of God. He may have been the one to give the word and instruction, but it also required the faith obedience of the widow as well.
Through her faith, the Lord intends for us to understand and learn something:
Faith requires that we heed the word that has been spoken - paying attention to it with the intention of acting on what it instructs us to do.
Elisha gave her three instructions:
First, go around and ask all her neighbors for empty jars, as many as she can.
Second, go inside the house and shut the door behind her and her sons.
Third, pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.
Without reasoning nor questioning, she did exactly what she had been instructed to do. She didn’t miss one step. She didn’t try to do it another way. Her actions proved her obedience and her humility. And God chose not only Elisha, but a widow, who was lowly and insignificant according to the world, to make a declaration of His power. To indicate a very important point: “…Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” (Mark 17:20, NIV)
My dear friends, you may have felt belittled by many, and you may think that you could never amount to something. You may even doubt that God can make some good and great thing out of your life. The truth is: God is not men. His way and His thoughts are different, and no matter how you define yourself, where your situation may be, heed His word! Then you will see His victory in your life!
