Isaiah 14:12-15, English Standard Version

“How you have fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low! You said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God I will set my throne on high; I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far reaches of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.’ But you are brought down to Sheol, to the far reaches of the pit.”

“When pride comes, then comes disgrace…”, “One's pride will bring him low…”, “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”, “Everyone who is arrogant in heart is an abomination to the Lord; be assured, he will not go unpunished.” (Proverbs 11:2, 29:23, 16:18, 16:5, ESV) There are many more warnings about pride in the book of Proverbs than I am quoting in this article. They were written by king Solomon, who the Bible says was the wisest man to ever live. In addition to his wisdom, this was actually God’s Word. And His Word tells us, “For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom…” (1 Corinthians 1:25, NIV)

Through the fall of Satan, we should have no doubt how serious the Bible’s warnings about pride truly are. The one who was once an archangel, was brought down by his pride, falling from heaven, and going down the path of destruction – everlasting chains in the depths of the pit. He and his works are an abomination to the Creator, and his punishment is set in motion. How did this happen? With his position and knowledge shouldn’t he have realized the privilege that he already had?

Hear the pride whispering in his heart, “I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God I will set my throne on high; I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far reaches of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.” (Isaiah 14:13-14, ESV)

His pride blinded him from recognizing the blessings he had, and he even denied the life that had been given to him. Foolish is he who seeks the throne of his Creator. He was deceived to believe he could make himself like God, and he betrayed the purpose that was given to him.

Tell me friends, are we also foolish if we are blind to recognize the blessings of God? Those who deny the message of the cross are foolish! (1 Corinthians 1:18) How stubborn or even wicked is it for those who think they can win the world and still keep their soul? Yet, at the same time they turn away from the one who has eternal life! (Matthew 16:26, John 6:68) Take heed, “For, ‘All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall.’” (1 Peter 1:24, NIV) ““You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.” (Matthew 5:13, NIV)

May the eyes of all people be opened to see, their ears be opened to hear, and their hearts open to receive!
