2 Kings 6:17, New Living Translation

“Then Elisha prayed, ‘O LORD, open his eyes and let him see!’ The LORD opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire.”

Let’s get into the Word in 2 Kings 6:17 and read it carefully, seeking what the Lord wants us to learn from what Elisha and his servant were experiencing.

The passage starts off with the word “Then”, which means something was happening. What was happening? “When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. ‘Oh no, my lord! What shall we do?’ the servant asked.” (Verse 15)

This was what Elisha’s servant faced in his early morning - an army with horses and chariots which surrounded the city – his home. They did not come to show honor or pay their respect; they came to destroy and kill. Does that sound familiar to you in some way or sometimes?

Thanks be to the Lord, he was not alone, but a man of God was with him. A man who God had chosen to anoint and represent Him. Does this man of God sound familiar to you, or does this represent someone in your life?

Let us continue to dig down to the verse… “’Don’t be afraid,’ the prophet answered. ‘Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.’” (Verse 16)

Do you remember who keep telling you “Do not be afraid” and who is always with us?

“O LORD, open his eyes and let him see!” O Lord, open our eyes and let us see! “I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from?” (Psalm 121:1, NIV) When Elisha’s servant looked up, he saw the army of God! Are you aware that if you look up instead of paralyzed by fear, then you will see where help comes from? You will recognize and boldly declare like the psalmist, “My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” (Psalm 121:2, NIV)

From Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21, The Word of God never stops to telling us about Him - Jesus. He is the Lord God Almighty, and He does not change from the beginning of time to everlasting! He is working for your good even before you see it! He loves you and He is the perfect love that casts out fear. “…he richly poured out on us with all wisdom and understanding.” (Ephesians 1:8, CSB) Do you humbly receive it? Do you trust Him and seek His guidance in all situations, and walk by faith, not by sight? (2 Corinthians 5:7)

Jesus is right where you are, He is our help in all circumstances. I pray and I hope you pray with me:

“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints.” (Ephesians 1:17-18, ESV)
