Luke 19:47-48, New International Version
“Every day he was teaching at the temple. But the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the leaders among the people were trying to kill him. Yet they could not find any way to do it, because all the people hung on his words.”
What was happening during the time that Jesus was on earth is still happening today, yet in a different way. Remember, the Word is active and alive in every moment. Let me try to put Luke 19:47-48 in my own words:
“Every day (His word Jesus) was teaching (His followers). But the (religious), (the educated) and (the government officials) among the people were trying to (shut down the Word). Yet they could not find any way to do it, because all the people hung on his words.”
We may place a lot of our attention on this world and allow it to lead our emotions and cause confusion, but I want to remind you to re-focus on the Word. The Lord knows there are man-made religious, false doctrines and denominations, world religions… false teachers and false prophets… anyone who is divisive and not of the one true body of Christ. He knows of the wickedness and evil behind the scenes. The Lord knows that even a country that was built upon His word can turn from Him. There will be a day when the schools will no longer teach His word, or the government will no longer seek His decrees and commands. That’s why He instructed all parents to train their children with His teachings, whether at home or on the road, whether going to bed or getting up (Deuteronomy 6:7). This is a 24/7 responsibility given by the Lord. The world wanted to kill Him (Jesus) then, just as it wants to end the Word (Jesus) now.
The Lords know! It is not a surprise to Him! Yet He is giving us a firm foundation and a promise, which is this: they could not find any way to do it, because all the people hung on to His words.
Do you hang on to His word? Do you stand firm, my dear brothers and sisters! How many times did the Apostle Paul say the same thing: Stand firm! He also reminds us:
Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.
Put on the full armor of God.
Stand against the devil’s schemes.
When the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
Stand firm then!
Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.
Be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
(Ephesians 6:10-18)
Stand firm on His word! “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9, NIV)
