Hebrews 6:19, New International Version
“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.”
Hope is a very powerful thing. When we have hope it can truly change our perspective about life and the things that we are going through. But what does it truly mean to have hope, and what are we to put our hope in?
Let’s start with establishing some definition about Biblical hope. Hope is translated from the Greek word “Elpis” and is defined in this way – expectation of good, In the Christian sense, joyful and confident expectation of eternal salvation, having hope in the author of hope, He who is its foundation. We can see from this definition hope is important and also that the importance of what we put our hope in.
There are many things that this world may tell us to hope for. But the reality is nothing in this world can truly give us hope. Instead, our hope should be placed in Christ and Christ alone. Our hope is that one day we will be with Jesus in paradise. Our hope is that one day our loved ones will come to know Christ as their Lord and Savior. Our hope is that One day there will be no more sorrow and no more pain, and He will wipe every tear from every eye. Our hope is that one day Christ will return! Our hope is that what God’s Word says is going to happen will truly occur, and our faith leads us to make real changes in our lives today because of that hope.
When we have this kind of hope we will have a firm foundation, an anchor, in the time of the storm. This anchor will not be shaken by the things going on around us because Christ never changes, and He never leaves us. When we cling to that hope when we face adversity, the hope of who Jesus is, it will actually strengthen our hope rather than deter it. And finally, when we have this hope it will be a great testimony to those who are watching us. When we face the trials of life, and our hope remains in Christ people will know that Jesus is real.
There may be some of you who read this who have lost hope. You may be facing difficulties and may not know what to do. But I want you to know that the Lord wants to restore your hope today! Trust in Him and He will lead in the direction that you should go.
