Revelations 21:5, English Standard Version
“And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
There is one specific moment in my life in which I remember experiencing the presence of Christ for the first time. In that moment I knew that something in my heart and mind changed, and I became a new person. The old had gone and the new person had been born. But what I didn’t understand at the time was this, that moment was not a destination, it was a starting point. The work in my life was just beginning.
When we think about the passage of scripture for today one thing struck me recently, when He says that He is making all things new He is speaking in the present and active tense. He does not state that He has made things new, or that He is going to make them new. Rather, He says that He “is making” them new. When I think again of my own life, I can say that as the years pass, I can see this process at work. I know that on that day I encountered Him something was made new. I can also see that the person I am today is different from the person I was on the day I met Him. And I know that the person I will be in the future will be different from the person I am today. This change is because each day as I seek the Holy Spirit and He does His work in my life I am being changed. Each day I am growing to become more like Christ. Each day a new life and new understanding is being imparted to me through the power and teaching of the Holy Spirit. Through Christ I am not the same person I was yesterday, and I will be a different person tomorrow. The process of making me new is an ongoing one and a great promise that we have is that not only is the Lord working to do this, but His word says that His plans are to prosper me and not to harm me, plans to give me hope and future.
No matter where you are in your walk with Christ, His desires make you new. He desires to mold you and to build you and to shape you into the person that He has created you to be. That is His promise to you each day. He desires to be a lamp unto your feet and a light unto your path. He will never leave you nor forsake you and you can always trust that He will be there for you.
If you know Christ today, then be encouraged that He has not forgotten you. He knows everything that is going on in your life and He cares. He desires only that you come to Him for rest, and He will once again renew you and fill you with love and joy and peace. If you do not know Him, then today is the day for the old to be replaced by the new. Do not wait any longer. Call upon the name of Jesus and allow Him to begin His great work in your life!
