Proverbs 16:9, English Standard Bible

“The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.”

Recently, the Lord seemed to be showing me many examples of the importance of submitting to His will. These examples all appear to be coming in real life situations that have sometimes been difficult. One of these situations involved my son’s car. A few weeks ago, I was riding in his car and noticed that there seemed to be a loud humming noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. I knew that the noise was not normal and made a few attempts to correct it but was not able to figure out what was going on. I received a recommendation to take it and have the wheels aligned because it appeared like the tires were not wearing properly. After taking the car to an alignment shop, they called me and told me the truth. The car was so badly out of alignment that the rear tires were nearly destroyed. The alignment was corrected, but the damage had already been done and we had to get new tires on the rear of the car.

As I thought about this situation, I couldn’t help but think about how much we can learn about our spiritual walk with the Lord. Essentially when a wheel on a car is out of alignment, instead of turning the same direction as the car, it is slightly off. It may only be a few degrees left or right, but ultimately it is trying to go its own way. This causes tremendous fatigue and pressure on the treads of the tire and after a period of time, the tire is all but worn out. In fact, if this situation is not resolved it can become dangerous as the problem tire can even blow out while the car is being driven.

Are you in alignment with the will of God for your life? Are you trusting in His plan and submitting to whatever it is that He has called you to do? Or are you still trying to go your own way? I want to tell you that no matter how much that tire tries, the car is going to go in the direction that the driver is steering. It is not going to change the course of the car, but instead, only make things more difficult in itself. If you are in alignment with God’s will for your life, then stay that way. Continue seeking Him and submitting to Him. If you find however that you are fighting against His will, then today is the day to repent and submit. He knows what is best for you and only He knows what He has created you to do. All you have to do is to hear Him and obey Him.
