Judges 21:25, New International Version
“In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as he saw fit.”
“There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death. (Proverbs 14:12, NLT)
A path before each person that seems right? Let me ask you a question, my friends, “What is right? What seems right according to the heart of each person?” Listen, how many times during the history of mankind have we called evil good and good evil?! Sadly, there is a lifelong struggle between the flesh and the Spirit. Everything that comes from the flesh is against the Spirit of the Holy God. The nature of mankind is sinful (after our disobedience, the fall), and the nature of God is holiness. When Israel rejected the Lord, and they had no king, no judge, and no prophet to guide them in the law of the Lord… everyone did as they saw fit. And that ended with death.
One of the darkest times in the history of Israel was when everyone did what they thought was right in their own eyes – the lawlessness of men. The time of Noah, the time when Moses was on the mountain, the time after the last judge, the time after the last prophet… the times they rejected God and His Word (His law, decrees, commands… His truth). Have we done any better over the centuries? Are we learning from the past? Or are we living in the same ignorance as they were in the past? Can someone say, “I am not a Christian and therefore the law of God has nothing to do with me.” Will such a person be free from the consequence of their deeds which are not accepted by God? By no means! Take heed and make an effort to consider what happened in the past, then you will know I am telling you the truth!
Babylon and its king were not a nation built upon the foundation of God. God sent them, God revealed Himself to them, and God’s judgment fell upon them. (2 King, Isaiah, Jeremiah) Consider Nineveh, an Assyrians, to whom God sent a prophet to call for their repentance. (The book of Jonah) Sodom and Gomorrah, The Canaanites, God sent judgment upon them for their wickedness. (Genesis 10) The Lord is the Judge of the whole earth! (Genesis 18:25, Matthew 25:31-46, Acts 17:31) No one can deny or remove His authority!
Are you awake? My friends? “Our days on earth are like grass; like wildflowers, we bloom and die. The wind blows, and we are gone— as though we had never been here.” (Psalm 103:15-16, NLT) What can you do to add a single hour to your life? (Luke 12:25-26, Psalm 139:16) Even if you could add it, how much longer do you have until the day the Lord Jesus comes back?
Open your eyes and see, and do not allow the enemy to blind you any longer but believe in Jesus. (2 Corinthians 4:4) We are in those days, we are now as we were in the past, everyone doing as they see fit. And this path only ends in death.
My friends, there is life for you, an everlasting one. There is hope you can receive by accepting Jesus and allowing His Spirit to guide your path – the only Way to everlasting life. Are you willing to make an effort to search for this truth?
