Joshua 6:1, English Standard Version
“Now Jericho was shut up inside and outside because of the people of Israel. None went out, and none came in.”
Have you read the story about Joshua and the walls of Jericho? This is one of the most famous historical events that happened in the Bible. You may remember the reason why Joshua marched around Jericho, and how many times the Israelites marched around it. You may also possibly remember Jericho’s wall collapsed after the trumpets sounded and the people shouted. However, I want you to pay attention to what is recorded in Joshua 6:1 (ESV), “Now Jericho was shut up inside and outside because of the people of Israel. None went out, and none came in.”
Like I said, if you know the story of Jericho, you are very likely in awe of what the Lord had done! Especially after you are aware that Jericho was tightly shut and no one was allowed to go in or out. Still, God took it down in His will and in His way. So the question is, what and who can be against God!
Now, for years there have been religious groups (possibly political as well), aiming to stop the Lord’s prophecy: “Then the glory of the Lord departed from over the threshold of the temple and stopped above the cherubim. While I watched, the cherubim spread their wings and rose from the ground, and as they went, the wheels went with them. They stopped at the entrance of the east gate of the Lord’s house, and the glory of the God of Israel was above them.” (Ezekiel 10:18-19, NIV)
Through their understanding of the Word, as well as the fear of what is written about “gate facing east” and Christ Jesus returning through it, they sealed the Eastern Gate shut (AD 1540–41) and it has remained sealed to this day.
If the prophecy has not been wrongly interpreted, and Jesus truly returns to the temple of Jerusalem, will the seal on the gate stop Him? If the walls of Jericho collapsed at the will of God I cannot see how a sealed gate can stop the Lord God Almighty!
There are many promises and warnings written in the Bible, all of which are the Word from the Lord Himself. Do you take it seriously and trust it with all your heart? Do you heed it and listen and obey? Do you follow with faith and with hope? The Lord Jesus, the Word, is not for anyone to mock or joke about. He does what He says! Whoever has ears let them hear!
