Matthew 3:7-10, New International Version
“But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing… “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not think you can say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ …The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.”
“For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.” (Romans 8:24-26, NKJV)
No one will hope for something that they have already or seek something they already have. However, when it comes to the topic for today, the error happens when a person thinks they have something, but they in fact do not. If you want to see that this is true, simply ask those who do not (yet) believe or know the Word of God and you will hear many examples.
You heard many says that their security comes from their bank account, their career, their retirement fund, their health insurance… You may have also witnessed how the majority of young people do not know how to complete even simple tasks because they have always been provided for. Learning to do it themselves is not something that has ever crossed their mind.
It is a very serious issue when someone thinks they have life, because they will never realize that they need to go find it. Because they will not go and find it, they will never truly have it. Just like the Pharisees who thought they were going to receive an inherence of everlasting life from their forefather Abraham. If we consider what is happening in our modern society, we will see that it is no different than it was two thousand years ago. This same thinking happened to those who were religious, and it is often the same thinking that affects those who are lost. If we do not know and accept that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, we will never find true life.
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” (Matthew 7:7-12, NIV)
Do you ask for Jesus? Do you seek Jesus? Do you knock on the door that will lead to everlasting life? God made a promise to you, if you ask to have Jesus in your life, life will be given to you. If you seek Jesus, and seek Him whole heartedly, He will be found by you, and He will show you the way, the truth, and the life and bring you back from the captivity of the enemy (Jeremiah 29:13-14). If you knock on the door, He will welcome you to the house of the Lord.
My dear friends, you may be on the path trying to find something for your life and yet, you do not know what life is truly about. You are feeling unsatisfied and so alone. There may be no hope in your mind, and you may feel so tired of fighting to have hope every day. Please listen, there is hope and there is joy. True life is right in front of you, and He is waiting for you to ask to have Him – ask and receive.
